Absolutely essential on social networks, the Big Red Boots, or BRB for friends, have become in just a few days the biggest fashion trend of the moment, even of the year, judging by the buzz they have created.

The New York collective had indeed already panicked the world of fashion with his sneakers satan shoesdesigned in collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X, and whose sole contained, it seems, a drop of human blood… We talk about it in the past tense because the extent of the controversy created by these Air Max 97 of a different kind was such that the shoes were finally withdrawn from sale.

But that obviously did not affect the creativity of the MSCHF artists since here we are, some time later, contemplating the Big Red Boots, an authentic UFO fashion.

Astro Boy inspired boots

The finest connoisseurs will immediately recognize in the Big Red Boots from MSCHF Astro Boy’s Bootsfamous superhero from the eponymous manga, created by Osamu Tezuka and released in 1952.

With this pair of shoes, the collective signs a new creation directly inspired by pop culture, a motif that is very regularly found in the works of these artists.

One thinks, for example, of their re-interpretation of Vans Old Skool (which has also earned them to be sued by the brand) or their huge Fruit Loop, a type of cereal very well known in the United States.

Inspired by the Big Red Boots and all the stars who adopted them (Lil Wayne, Diplo, Rich The Kid, Steve Natto… to name a few)?
